The lifestyle category

One of the appreciated features on MovableType blogs is the ability to create categories and link specific entries to single or multiple categories. I’m starting a Lifestyle category today because I want to create some balance in what jack/zen explores. Even though there may be attitude boundaries here, I’d like the content boundaries to be more boundaryless.
For me, lifestyle things like choice of music, food, art, fashion, design. Though there is a popularized “zen” aesthetic, I think that people who’s lifestyles are informed by zen practice have a broader and richer set of possibilities beyond any stylized confines. Zen cooking is a good example. For me, it’s always sensory rich cuisine infused with visual, flavor, and texture contrasts. Anyway …. stay tuned for more in this category and let’s keep the conversation open on today’s question here: Is there a zen aesthetic and if so what are its qualities and examples? Thanks.

i agree that you can’t buy a zen aesthetic at a store…
good question: for me, a zen aesthetic is informed by the notion that something is what it is…no more, no less…i.e. a wine that you enjoy vs. a wine that is meant to impress people… riding your bike cause it feels good as opposed to doing it “cause i need the exercise…”

i like it. the idea of authenticity; no affectation. that is very zen at the core. things just being as they are. just being who we are without disguise or apology.
