Zen style

Spending any amount of time wandering or meditating in Zen gardens in Japan, it becomes quickly obvious that beauty is what Zen is about. It’s not a consumerist beauty that must be purchased, but one that is more natural - local and sustainable.

In my world, it means listening to library CD’s that constantly churn the jazz best of Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, and Dizzy Gillespie. It means using the insanely fragrant basil I’m growing for the gnocchi sauce. It means adorning the yard with magnificently simple flowers from last year’s seeds and this year’s earth. The scope of our beauty is equal to the scope of our intention and imagination.
