Meditation without walls
My buddy Mark McDermott and I started a Monday night meditation group a few months ago and it’s achieved a decent rhythm of participation and practice. Most of us are daily meditators, so it’s no surprise yesterday morning to find Mark catching a few minutes of meditation in the courtyard garden at the new neighborhood coffee shop.
If as Swami Rama suggests, that peace precedes joy, meditation is as necessary as breathing - in fact is breathing - to support an intention of joy in everything we do. If we want a life of joy, it begins with a life of peace - unrestricted by time or space.

As a footnote, the group is open and in the Ohio City neighborhood of Cleveland (just across the river from downtown). Anyone wanting to attend, let me know: jack@designinglife.com. We do sitting and walking meditation followed by a group dialogue about practice. Or if you want a brief intro to (zen) meditation before a Monday group, let me know and we can make that happen.
