Bossy bosses
My friend Connie landed a new job recently and is surprised to discover she reports to a guy who likes to run things in spite of his having people who are most capable of handling the empowerment to do just fine otherwise, thank you. He doesn’t listen deeply enough to trust and as a result lets amazing talent go unused.
As I’ve coached these kinds of bosses over the years, I do so with the compassion that their bosses usually do not inspire or expect otherwise from them. And as I keep re-discovering, some people have no reference point other than heirarchical managing. They’re like people who struggle to raise cows on ocean beaches, not realizing if they just turn around completely and look around, there’s a whole sea of daily food waiting to be harvested.
