The bread of life

It’s interesting that so many cultures have their own version of bread - bread loaves, pita, matso, crepes, tortilla chips, rice crackers, pastries. Grain is at the heart of food. In each case, the form provides a perfect context for the content of what it holds and conveys.

When I lived in Europe we had excellent bakerei but a British friend who was an experienced bread maker encouraged me to make my own bread. It was a quiet thing to do early mornings by myself. I can still see my sons eating it barely cooled down with fresh sweet butter or a big spoonful of Nutella…memories.

What an inspiring image, thanks. That’s why working with our hands in the kitchen is such an essential practice.
