The value of big webs

According to this week’s NY Times Science section, French scientists find that spiders invest valuable daily energy building and rebuilding larger rather than smaller webs. Although the probabilities of catching large nutrition sources is small though vital to the spider’s vitality and survival, larger webs are more effective and worth the cost. After all, only larger webs are capable of catching larger possibilities.

    Indeed. Webbing meekly in a corner never caught a big fly.
