Heart drain

I learned recently that a neighbor couple will soon be moving to a retirement community. They are great people, both retired execs, this year celebrating their 47th anniversary. They’ve been the most generous and kind neighbors.

We hear about brain drain in communities, which is in itself no small thing. We need to give at least equal attention to heart drain - when good people with passion and heart leave the community.

We wish Tom and Joe the best, looking forward to attracting new heart energy to fill the void.

I love this, including the surprise twist at the end.

Part of heart work as you well know, yes, is breaking stereotypes.

I think its more heart drain than brain drain killing this area. People that really do care and want to see better days for NEO are just giving up and getting out.

I think we will start to see a more pronounced case of this occuring nationwide - as people with the means to do so just give up and get while the gettin is (still relatively) good.

I know I have been spending quite a bit of time down that road lately, and I can’t be the only one. And if I am, then I think it’s safe to say that I shouldn’t be here anymore.

It is very important that we each keep looking for inventive ways to use our unique talents to make whatever impact we can, regardless of the size or scope of that impact….no matter where the law of two feet* takes us.

*Law of 2 feet (from Open Space): Honor your strengths and passions - If you find yourself no longer contributing or learning, go somewhere where you can.
