In praise of no

One of the most insidious voices in our head is the voice of guilt about saying no.

It’s a voice based on the misbelief that we should have all the time and resources to take on whatever comes our way. It is the curse of the competent and willing who attract the undeliverable expectations of others with their competence and willingness.

Seeing through this misbelief is the beginning of our freedom to say no, which paradoxically only allows us to better deliver on what we do say yes to.
