McMeds

My friend Bob is a brilliant vet, loved by those who entrust dogs and cats to his able, Ivy League trained hands. Yesterday over lunch he confesses to the trick to getting pets to take nasty meds: hide them in McDonald’s double cheeseburgers. He buys them by the bag because they’re cheap and apparently effective.

I always knew they had value.

They have a nearly narcotic effect on me! Thank heaven I only fall off the wagon 2 or 3 times a year. But then I have to return to a spiritual program of recovery.

Ego mind longs for narcotics of any variety because it’s (yet one more) ideal way to resist the present. The resistance goes like this: “you can’t get to bliss by being present to the crap you’ve encountered in this moment, so you’re gonna need to get somewhere else, via a narcotic of some kind, to experience the bliss you lack.” It’s what ego mind does so well.
