Goals in a quantum universe

I’ve had a few conversations recently about my apparently provocative suggestion in Mountain Paths that we should all be working from goals. It’s provocative because I spent a whole book (Accidental Conversations) a few years ago that makes the case that planning is just wierd in a world where change is a constant.

So what is a goal in a dynamic world? A goal for sure is not a prediction or guarantee. It is simply a description of what attracts us in the future. It is a lens through which to see the present differently. Every time you shift your description of what attracts you in the future, you see your present differently.

The key is to not get attached to any form of any goal because we’re constantly shifting in what we’re learning, what we’re becoming, who we’re connected to, and the world of new opportunities that we can never anticipate, control, or predict. If we’re paying attention, our goals continuously evolve in the direction of greater vision and wisdom. This is the quantum view. Enjoy …
