Community dreaming
Did an Open Space today with a small community thriving in the Northeast corner of Ohio. It boasts one of the best quality of life options in the country and world-class music programs. My piece was community engagement in a design charette process.
It’s interesting when you invite a community to dream together. You have the agenda defenders and rehashers in search of converts to their one-true-way. There are the politicos who believe that nothing will happen until we clean house “at the top.” Sometimes there are the developers pushing new commercial projects to undermine existing struggling options.
The best engagement is authentic, where people come together to discover how they can act in a more empowered ways together, in contrast to rendering themselves to powerless waiting for “leaders” to take the initiative.
