It was wholistic. Buddhist principles of respect for life, political affirmation of meat growing and processing issues, health habits of eating in ways that consumes less energy therefore freeing up energy, attraction to ethnic styles that feature meatless richness.

27 years. Wow.

I've just been doing it for about 18 months. It's been surprising to find that going meatless is mostly about breaking the habit, rather than giving up taste, variety, or nutrition.

The smell of my neighbor's barbecue still gets to me sometimes, even though I know it would never taste as good as the breeze enchants me to believe it would.

What was your motivation for starting this practice?
