What we do
Those of us who do organization and community development for a living are often caught short of simple descriptions of this kind of work to people with no exposure to it.
One way to describe the work is this. People come to us in some state of puzzlement. They teach us the beauty and complexity of their world and we teach them the possibilities of getting unpuzzled.

Or, after working 16 years in the field in community and economic development with various mission/vision statements, core values, goals and objectives, my parents’ response when asked what their oldest son does; “He helps people.”

Funny, but true, Lou. Been there, still there on that with family and friends. This work is so unknown, many people don’t even know it exists, except perhaps to think it’s some kind of science fiction : )
