Tonight’s launch

Tonight’s launch of a men’s group provoked amazing and rich layers of honesty, reflection, empathy, and storytelling. This was focused on the first section of David Deida’s “The Way of the Superior Man: A Spiritual Guide to Mastering the Challenges of Women, Work, and Sexual Desire.”

What struck people were themes like what’s our life purpose, how do we give ourselves fully to listening when the people in our lives struggle the most, what are we postponing, and how do we live at the edge of our fears. We finished with everyone articulating the commitments they will report on next month emerging from the learning here. It is an honor to be in a community of men who are so committed to giving themselves fully to their lives.

It was an energizing dialog. I’m looking forward to next month and began working on my commitments this morning.

One of the things I liked was everyone’s intention to personalize rather than conceptualize, which speaks to people’s willingness to accept rather than postpone accountability within the learning. It’s an interesting lesson in the connection between accountability and freedom.
